American Bosch Substitution Table
Over the years, American Bosch has discontinued most of its magneto parts. While appearing at first to leave most of its customers "high-and-dry", they in fact have consolidated their parts listing to only those parts "absolutely required to get the job done/mag fixed." What does that mean? It means that if there is something close, then that is good enough. Need a 1 cylinder cap? Then buy a generic 4 cylinder cap and plug 3 of the holes. Was this the right thing for them to do? Probably not, but that is what they did. What it does mean is that when you look at and American Bosch parts list for a given mag, you may not find the cap you need. But, if you have the subsitution list (a closely guarded secret) then you can find a substitue.
Well, the substitution list is a secret no more! Here it is, dated April 1959. As I find other substitutions,
I will include them as well. Also, just because a part is listed as a substitue, doesn't mean that it is available.
